Les refirió otra parábola, diciendo: «El reino de los cielos es semejante a un hombre que sembró buena semilla en su campo; pero mientras dormían los hombres, vino su enemigo y sembró cizaña entre el trigo, y se fue. Cuando brotó la hierba y dio fruto, entonces apareció también la cizaña. Fueron entonces los siervos del padre de familia y le dijeron: “Señor, ¿no sembraste buena semilla en tu campo? ¿Cómo, pues, tiene cizaña?” Él les dijo: “Un enemigo ha hecho esto.” Y los siervos le dijeron: “¿Quieres, pues, que vayamos y la arranquemos?” Él les dijo: “No, no sea que al arrancar la cizaña arranquéis también con ella el trigo. Dejad crecer juntamente lo uno y lo otro hasta la siega, y al tiempo de la siega yo diré a los segadores: ‘Recoged primero la cizaña y atadla en manojos para quemarla; pero recoged el trigo en mi granero.’”»
Otra parábola les refirió, diciendo: «El reino de los cielos es semejante al grano de mostaza que un hombre tomó y sembró en su campo. Ésta es a la verdad la más pequeña de todas las semillas, pero cuando ha crecido es la mayor de las hortalizas y se hace árbol, de tal manera que vienen las aves del cielo y hacen nidos en sus ramas.»
Reflexiones sobre la lectura de hoy
ActiveDefault- Esta idea, de que el bien y el mal pueden coexistir, inquieta a la mente. Jesús no fomenta un enfoque simplista. Más bien, nos llama a la humildad, la paciencia y la tolerancia, mientras permitimos que Dios obre en nuestras vidas.
- Tal vez pueda recordar los eventos de mi vida que parecían estériles o llenos de malas hierbas, y pueda ver ahora que Dios estaba obrando. ¿Qué me dice eso sobre el juzgar, la esperanza o la perspectiva?

ActiveDefault- The idea that good and bad might coexist gives trouble to the tidy mind. Jesus does not encourage a simplistic approach but calls us to humility, patience and tolerance as we allow God to work in our lives.
- Perhaps I can look back on events in my life that seemed barren or weedy, and see now that God was at work. What does that say to me about judging, hope or perspective?

ActiveDefault- The first parable highlights the patient mercy of God. Let me imagine myself standing beside the Lord as he looks at the field he has planted so carefully. Note his sorrow to find weeds there. We talk, and I let him look at me: both of us know that I spoil his good work when I am small-minded and forgetful of his dreams for the world.
- But in his mercy he doesn’t call me his ‘enemy’: instead he is forgiving and endlessly patient. I ask him to help me be merciful and patient with those in the Church who fail to heed the needs of God’s people.
- Listening to the second parable Jesus’ hearers would have expected God’s coming to be full of mighty deeds as related in the Hebrew scriptures. But Jesus is offering a God who is ‘the right size’ such as they could manage. God is non-threatening; God acts in small and seemingly insignificant ways. He is to be found in the insignificant mustard seed as much as in the mighty cedar.
- Lord, help me to notice that your saving presence is revealed in the tedium of my small life, in unnoticed goodness, in meeting the ongoing challenges and diminishments of daily life. In all of them let me respond with quiet love.
